Gwinnett Sheriff's Deputy Killed in Wreck

A Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy was killed after his motorcycle and an  ice cream truck collided at a Barrow County intersection as he was on his way home Monday night, June 1, 2009.  An ice cream truck ran a stop sign at the intersection of Atlanta Highway and Bowman Mill Road, colliding with a passing truck.  That truck struck the deputy's motorcycle and knocked him off.  The deputy, who was wearing a helmet, died from his injuries.   There are many facts that remain unknown. Depending on the facts, it is possible that the officers dependants' will need a workers comp attorney. His survivors may have a claim for personal injuries and for wrongful death.  Atlanta has many attorneys that can represent the family for personal injuries, wrongful death and for a workers compensation claim.  Much of the protection afforded to the officer's family would be from the insurance policy of the owner and operator of the ice cream truck.  Many vehicles are very underinsured, so each person must take the responsibility to buy uninsured motorists coverage and med pay to protect themselves and their loved ones. Don't count on the other guy to protect you.
