Numbers Say Cellphones Dangerous While Driving

Numbers Say Cellphones Dangerous While Driving

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution recently reported a Virginia Tech Transportation Institute study on the dangers of using a cellphone while driving.  The study produced the following, somewhat unexpected, results:

2.8 - factor by which the chance of an accident increases for a car driver dialing a cell phone

4 - increased chance of accident for car driver reaching for a cellphone or other electronic device

5.9 - factor by which the chance of an accident increases for a heavy truck driver dialing a cellphone

6.7 - increased chance of accident for a heavy truck driver reaching for a cellphone or other electronic device

23.2 - increased chance of accident for a heavy truck driver sending text messages

These numbers show an increase in risk when drivers of any vehicle attempt to use cellphones or other electronic devices while driving.  Using these devices may prove dangerous, or even deadly, when behind the wheel.  We have seen a rise in the number of serious automobile, motorcycle or trucking accidents and collisions in the metro Atlanta, Georgia  area as a result of cell phone use.  If you or a loved one have been injured as a result of a car, motorcycle or tractor-trailer collision, please call our office at 888-973-2540 to schedule your free consultation.
