It seems only reasonable to assume that if you are a patient at Emory Eastside Medical center or Emory-Adventist Hospital, you are getting the same quality of care as patients at Emory University’s highly regarded Atlanta teaching hospitals. But, you would be wrong. These hospitals, as well as Emory Johns Creek Hospital are joint ventures with other hospital chains. Emory oversees operations, but leaves the everyday management to its partners. 

 
Only Emory’s teaching hospitals, Emory University Hospital and Emory University Hospital Midtown are solely run by Emory University. It seems that the partnerships may be compromising Emory’s quality.

 
As a measurement of quality, Medicare does nationwide surveys of patients after they leave the hospital. Emory-Adventist was ranked no higher than third worst in Georgia on seven of the ten patient satisfaction questions. It had the lowest ranking in the state for how well patient’s pain was managed.

 
Emory Eastside scored better than Emory-Adventist hospital, but below state averages on most questions. Emory Johns Creek received high ratings on both patient satisfaction surveys and quality measures.
