Q: When I sign the check for my property damage is my case over?

A: When you’re involved in an accident, you have two separate claims against the driver who caused the accident – the property damage claim and your bodily injury claim.  Each claim is completely separate and settlement of one does not affect the other.  This means that you can agree on repair costs or the value of a totaled vehicle without jeopardizing your bodily injury claim.  Just be sure that any document you sign clearly states that the check for settlement of the property damage claim only.
