They will realize that you’re an active part of the resident’s life which can minimize the potential for abuse. Your loved one may even receive better treatment than if you did not visit often, as the staff know you’ll be checking up on them. The last thing any nursing home wants is for a concerned family member to file a report of abuse or neglect against them, so your frequent visits will keep them on their toes.

If you or another family member is able to visit the nursing home, take the opportunity to speak with the staff while you are there. Not only can you learn more about how your loved one is doing, but you can share concerns with them and emphasize your expectations for their care. By developing a good rapport with nursing home staff, you may be able to nip any potential problems in the bud and ensure that your loved one is properly looked after.
