A gas line explosion this past Thursday injured four workers in Atlanta. The huge explosion happened near the intersection of Donald Lee Hollowell and Glass Streets, and Atlanta fire officials state that the men are lucky to be alive.
According to those investigating the incident, a four-inch gas line ruptured during maintenance work. The rupture created a flash explosion, the force of which was enough to send a huge piece of asphalt up in to the air.
The flying piece of asphalt crashed down onto a vehicle, crushing a windshield. The four injured men had to be taken to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) officials visited the scene of the investigation. No additional information about what caused the rupture or the extent of the damage was available.
The gas line workers will probably get workers’ compensation benefits as a result of the accident, which will allow them time to recover and will compensate them for medical bills.
