Southbound I-75 Shut Down for Major Traffic Accident

Posted on Jun 22, 2009

A multi-vehicle traffic accident shut down all four southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Clayton County last week.  There were two separate accidents reported involving five vehicles, all taking place near Forest Parkway

According to investigators, three people were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital to be treated.  No life-threatening injuries were reported as a result of the accidents.

The main issue leading to the closure of all southbound lanes of I-75 was the involvement of a truck carrying dry cleaning chemicals.  In one of the incidents the dry cleaning chemical truck was damaged, and chemicals spilled onto the interstate.

The interstate was closed for about an hour while crews worked to clean the dry cleaning chemicals off the roadway.  The road closure was necessary because the chemicals were flammable.

No word as to what caused either crash.
