Two Die in a Wrong-Way Crash in Austell

Posted on May 07, 2013

An Atlanta car accident attorney at Kaufman Law recently saw the story of a terrible accident that occurred in Austell, resulting in the deaths of two northeast Georgia residents.

Authorities state that they were attempting to stop Chrystina L. Stanford, 29, of Roswell, for a traffic violation on Austell Road near the Maxham Road intersection in the early morning hours of April 17, 2013. Stanford failed to stop and attempted to elude Cobb County Police, fleeing northbound on Austell Road in the southbound lanes at a high rate of speed.

Stanford’s silver Acura sped past Sweetwater Lane and the officer attempting to stop her lost sight of the vehicle. Moments later, Stanford’s vehicle collided head-on with a 2001 gold Acura 3.5RL driven by Gary B. Sheppard, 41, of Marietta. Both drivers were killed on impact and police shut down parts of Austell Road for several hours to assess and clean up the scene.

Billy Cooper, who lives near the accident location, stated that the collision sounded like a “big loud bam, like a shotgun,” waking him up at about 4:15 a.m.  “It sounded like an explosion,” Cooper told a local newspaper, “it shook my whole house.”

The investigation is ongoing as police continue to review evidence and assess the details of the accident. No charges have been filed at this time.

The Atlanta car accident attorneys at Kaufman Law send our deepest condolences to both families as they deal with this tragic loss.
